Plants absorb all nutrients from water and the development of plants bank on supplying proper nutrients to the plants. In organic hydroponic system you cannot grow plants without nutrients. Different mediums are used in containers for growing plants. They have different capacity to hold water and nutrient. You can some methods to check water holding capacity and can develop by using mediums.

Water-holding Capacity System There is one simple method to check capacity. Just, pour a cup of water in a upper container. That should be filled with one medium. If one-fourth water of a cup runs out the bottom then assume that the moisture is slightly less than the required capacity. Then pour half cup of water in another container that have filled with another medium. If the water remains as it is or water does not run into the lava rock then conclude that the medium will best. This kind of nutrient is best for water holding capacity and water holding capacity as well.

At this time, do not mix more nutrients in the water. Provide nutrients according in terms of water holding capacity. If you provide more nutrients in the water than the water holding capacity it could be run into savior water. And it may be lost the power of nutrients or it may be cause to burn plants. You can change lava rock and use less liquid. Or do not use single drop of liquid nutrients during feeding system. It means your valuable nutrients will not be lost second things you can use them for proper time.

You can also use media testing method. It is because water and nutrients holding capacity also bank on water itself. Many times soil consists more or less iron, salt, phosphorus, sulfur etc. and therefore using media testing is also important method. Sometimes medium lacks something. Or they will have something more that we cannot see by standing outside.
